An Overview of West Nile Virus in Children and Infants
West Nile virus infection in children younger than 1 year old is infrequent. Between 1999 and 2001, no cases in children younger than one year of age were reported to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). In 2002, 2,500 total West Nile virus cases were reported, and only six occurred in children less than one year of age.
Infants and children are not at a higher risk for developing a West Nile virus illness than other age groups.
